Kwame Nkrumah

First President of the Republic of Ghana, one of the BIG SIX (men). Born on 21 September 1909 at Nkroful in the Western Region of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah inaugurated the Akosombo Dam on 22 January 1966 only a month bevor his overthrow on 24 February 1966. His daughter Samia has been elected a Member of Parliament in the December 2008 elections.
The dam is still the main power supply for Ghana. The 100th birthday of Kwame Nkrumah is celebrated this coming monday with a national holiday, which also marks the end of Ramadan fasting, in Agbogbloshie and around. So again, many reasons to celebrate in Ghana!
